Rajesh Nambiar appointed Cognizant India CMD – Times of India


BENGALURU: Rajesh Nambiar has been appointed as the chairman and managing director of Cognizant India and a member of its executive committee effective November 9. TOI was the first to report that he is the front runner for the role two weeks back.
The post became vacant when Ramkumar Ramamoorthy quit the firm in July. Ramamoorthy recently joined the Chennai Mathematical Institute as its CEO.

Nambiar joins Cognizant from Ciena, a networking, systems, and software company, where he currently serves as chairman and president of Ciena, India.
Nambiar is seen to have accelerated the firm’s growth and expanded its presence in networking systems and services in the country.
He was previously general manager of IBM’s application services business. Before IBM, he was with the Tata Group for nearly twenty years.
At IBM, Nambiar was the general manager and global leader for IBM’s application services nusiness, with oversight of an $8 billion global P&L.
“In the repositioned and elevated role of the India chairman and managing director, Rajesh will strengthen our brand positioning in India and enhance our relationships with relevant Indian government agencies, chambers of commerce, universities, the media, and key policy-making bodies, including Nasscom. Rajesh will also serve as the Executive Committee representative of our nearly 200,000 associates in India,” said its CEO Brian Humphries.
